Caui Lofgren - Bio

Caui Lofgren draws upon the personal stories shared by his Swedish and Filipino family as they relate to patterns of migration, ecology, and the environment. With a deep respect for nature, his paternal grandmother shared childhood stories of her native Marin-Duque and the plants that shaped his interest in botany. Born in Sweden, his Swedish/Filipino father shared his romanticized vision of a Kerouacian American West. Conflating and contrasting these two narratives, Lofgren arrives at a magical realism informed by both real and imagined events, migration, capitalism, and cross-cultural mythology.
